Connect an AI assistant to SBITS
SBITS exposes an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server so tools like ChatGPT, Claude, Codex and Cursor can look up our services, pricing, hours and contact details — and lodge an enquiry on your behalf while you're signed in.
https://smallbizitsolutions.co.nz/mcpBefore you start
- You'll need an SBITS account. If you don't have one yet, create one here — it only takes an email and password.
- An AI client that supports remote MCP servers with OAuth — currently ChatGPT (with connectors enabled), Claude Desktop, Codex CLI, or Cursor.
- A modern browser signed into your SBITS account, so the OAuth consent screen can complete without a second login.
How the OAuth sign-in works
- 1
Add the MCP server URL to your AI client
Paste
https://smallbizitsolutions.co.nz/mcpinto your AI client's "Add MCP server" or "Connectors" dialog. Use the transport labelled HTTP or Streamable HTTP — not stdio. - 2
The client opens an SBITS sign-in window
Your AI client discovers that SBITS requires OAuth and pops open a browser window pointed at our sign-in page. Enter your SBITS email and password (or create an account on the spot).
- 3
Approve the consent screen
After sign-in, SBITS shows a consent page: "Connect [your AI tool] to your SBITS account." It lists the client name and redirect URL. Click Approve to grant access, or Cancel to deny.
- 4
The client stores an access token
You'll be redirected back to your AI client, which receives a per-user access token. From this point on the assistant can call SBITS tools as you, without asking again.
- 5
Ask the assistant to use SBITS
Try prompts like "What Managed IT Plans does SBITS offer?" or "Lodge a contact enquiry with SBITS asking about cloud migration." The assistant calls the matching tool and returns the result.
Client-specific setup
ChatGPT
Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector. Paste the URL above, choose HTTP transport, and complete the OAuth window.
Claude Desktop
Settings → Connectors → Add connector → Remote server. Paste the URL and sign in when prompted.
Cursor
Settings → MCP → Add server. Choose "HTTP" and paste the URL. Cursor opens the OAuth window automatically.
Codex CLI
Add an entry to your Codex MCP config with url set to the SBITS MCP URL and transport: "http". Run codex mcp login sbits to complete OAuth.
